"Whistling Woods is an amazingly impressive school in India and I would love to come back again to share my experience and knowledge with upcoming animators and filmmaking students!" - said the veteran from the world of VFX Animation, Samir Hoon, the President, VFX Division of Prana Studios who has been credited for his great contribution in films like Star Wars, Terminator 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Twister, Mission Impossible while taking a master class at Whistling Woods International, Mumbai.
VFX has to be seen "as a tool to tell the story of a film, not becoming the story". Samir emphasized the "crucial importance of Pre-visualization, as early as at the scripting stage, with the VFX team working on the flow of the film and it's look, with the director, cinematographer, the set designer, and even specialists in make-up. Even where VFX is used extensively, not all of the film is completely computer-generated. The biggest challenge is to use the best of both worlds, to achieve a seamless look and to convince the audience."
His advice to the Animation students of Whistling Woods was to focus on acquiring skills in Rendering and Rigging. On the show-reels they should prepare, he advised: "The name of the game is quality. Be realistic, focus on the areas of your strength. Simplicity is important. Make your characters come alive so that they connect."
"We are grateful to Prana studios who has recruited the Animation graduates from Whistling Woods and have always shown their support towards furthering their education" said Meghna Ghai Puri, President Whistling Woods International. |
