At the 16th International Children's Film Festival of India (ICFFI), held in Hyderabad recently, the best of films made for children globally, were showcased and hopes were expressed for a better future for children's cinema in India. For students of Whistling Woods International (WWI), it was also a great opportunity to show their commitment and expertise as the filmmakers of tomorrow. Eleven Producing Juniors, along with Rabiya Nazki and Anjali Agarwal (Faculty, Producing, WWI) comprised the team (the first-ever from a film institute), invited to "cover" the week-long event. The dynamic young team's coverage of all the events (including behind-the-scenes of happenings), resulted in about 70 hours of footage, with a focused control over all aspects of production from idea development to shoot execution. As their Faculty reported, it was commendable that the students ably put to use all the learning that they acquire at the Foundation and Freshmen levels at WWI, where the thrust is on the overall development of skills in all areas of filmmaking.
Significantly, a 2 min AV by the young WWI team was an integral part of the Closing Ceremony of ICFFI, and also featured on Doordarshan, the national channel. The Chairperson of the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI), Nandita Das and the CEO of CFSI, Sushovan Banerjee, among others in the media, expressed their appreciation of "the talented bunch of students of WWI" who, despite limited resources, had made such an impact with their whole-hearted and unstinted efforts.
