| Western India Cinematographers' Association, Mumbai, felicitates legendary cinematographer V K Murthy at Whistling Woods |

It was an evening of felicitation to Mr.V K Murthy, the legendary cinematographer with great work behind him like 'Pyaasa', 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam', 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand' and many others. Conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, he is an institution in himself, and continues to inspire generations of cinematographers till today. There was nostalgia in the air as Mr. Murthy spoke from Bangalore on Skype, to the glittering film fraternity gathered at Whistling Woods; he dwelt at length on his experiences in cinema in the '50s and the '60s and said, "Cinematography is more of an art than a science".
The felicitation held by Western India Cinematographers' Association (WICA), Mumbai, was organised by reputed senior cinematographers including Ashok Mehta (President, WICA), Rajen Kothari, Krishhnamurthy and a team of faculty and students from Whistling Woods. The event also saw veteran cinematographers, Peter Pereira, Ram Madkaikar, Anil Mitra, SL Sharma, Capt. Purush Baokar, SM Anwar, Allam Ram Mohan, SA Sayyad, Pravin Bhatt and Ishwar Bidri being honoured with WICA Life Membership.
Speaking on the occasion, Subhash Ghai thanked Mr.V K Murthy for having given a different dimension to the art of cinematography and for having inspired new generations with such brilliance. He reminded him that he had worked under him as an actor in the film 'Umang' under Guru Dutt Films and learnt a few secrets from him. Asha Parekh, who has worked with Mr. Murthy in three films including 'Love in Tokyo' and 'Ziddi', acknowledged his contribution in making her "look so beautiful."
It was also, truly an unforgettable evening for the young aspiring filmmakers - the students of Whistling Woods.
