Mumbai, India, May 7, 2009: WWI today announced that nine of its student films will be showcased at the Short Film Corner at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival this year, the most glamorous film festival in the world. The festival begins from May 13 to May 24, 2009.The WWI student films will be showcased along with thousands of films from across the world during the 12 day festival.
Subhash Ghai, Chairman, Whistling Woods International couldn't contain his pride while saying, "This is truly a fantastic honour. Having our student films being screened at Cannes is a huge exposure and motivation for the students.. At Whistling Woods International we have consciously looked at imparting world class education in line with current industry trends. This recognition is a result of our sincerity towards achieving this goal. The students have spared no efforts in partaking of this training. I look forward to people's reaction to our students films which will be showcased at the festival".
It comes as no surprise to foreign students that study at Whistling Woods International. Alexis Forni, Producing, Freshman batch at Whistling Woods International says, "I am extremely proud to be a Whistling Woods student. I think this is an amazing school and that it is world class. I attended two of the top film schools in LA (CalArts and CSUN) and the faculty and curriculum at Whistling Woods International are on par, if not better, with these schools. I feel really blessed to be here."
Following is the list of short films which will be showcased at the festival:
1. Ek Tha Main: (Directed by Paras Chakravarti who is currently working with Mukta Arts)
This is the story of Tanishq, a young man doing fairly well in life yet not satisfied with what he has. The tale unfolds when his life is taken over by an advice sprouting self-help 'guru'. Will Tanishq find happiness by following his mantras?
2. Roorkee By-Pass: (Directed by Arundathi Sen Verma who is currently working with Anil kapoor productions)
The film dwells on the relationship of a middle-aged man with his aunt to whom he had been very close during his childhood. After a long gap of 8 years, he visits her but realizes the extent of her loneliness. How can he make up this absence to his loving neglected Maasi?
3. Tuesday: (Produced by Vishal Gandhi who is working with Red Chillies entertainment)
Tuesday. July 11th, 2006. 6:20pm. He died on board one of seven trains that were bombed on the suburban railway in Mumbai. That was 22 years ago. There's still time to save him.
4. Tying Strings and Shame: (Directed by Ataullah Hossain who is currently working with Anurag Kashyap)
Relationships between two young couples unravel and resolve themselves against the backdrop of a beautiful Indian seaside resort. There is only one condition, you have to take the first step, or at least try to.
5. NEWS: (Directed by Sarvesh Mewara who is currently working with Mukta Arts)
The story of ignorance and innocence. The story of tears we did not know to cry. The story of growing up. This is the story of a boy........This is the story of Raju.
6. Gir Gaya: (Directed by Chirag Arora)
The film follows the changing relationship between a mentally challenged boy and his mother.
7. Ansuni: (Directed by Sunny Bhambani and produced by Chaitally Parmar who are currently working with Mukta Arts)
Ansuni is a story set in a small town somewhere in India; it is a story about the relationship between Meera and Hamid who have been friends for six years. Will Hamid's realization that he is in love with his best friend ruin everything?
8. A Writer's Affair: (Produced by Aditi Anand who is currently working with Walkwater films)
A writer in search of his story, of himself, and an illicit love affair between him and his characters. The search for the perfect story has begun.
9. Shoot: (Produced by Surendra Pratap who is currently working with Foxs tar entertainment)
"No Man's Land", Northern India. One Miracle. This is the story of a football game which is reported to have actually been played between a small bunch of Indian and Pakistani soldiers. A few days after which the Kargil War was declared.
